“I instantly felt supported and very comfortable and felt I was on the right path”

Our purpose, impact and outcomes
We want to see anyone who is suffering from the pain and grip of addiction restored to wholeness and a new sense of purpose in life, and to see as many people as possible set free from their addiction.
Our strategy for achieving this goal revolves around delivering results across five key pillars:
Training Churches and Organisations to Run Courses
Supporting, Encouraging, and Growing Existing Courses
Developing and Growing the Availability of The Recovery Course in Prisons
Equipping Churches and Organisations with Free Course Resources
Supporting the Establishment and Growth of Courses in International Locations
By creating a community of churches and organisations that are equipped and trained to run The Recovery Course locally, we help guests who attend a course take back control of their lives and find the support they need from other guests and leaders. This enables them to know that they do not have to face addiction alone and can begin to live a happy and fulfilled life free of addiction.
We believe that with the right support, recovery and lasting change are possible for anyone.

Training Churches
Our training sessions, held every quarter, are open to anyone interested in running a course, whether you're an individual or part of a church group or organisation. These sessions are free and conducted online, ensuring accessibility for all, regardless of location. The training provides a clear understanding of the course and all the resources, and attendees gain the necessary knowledge to understand what's involved and what steps to take toward establishing a course.

Growing Courses
We are committed to empowering churches and organisations to make a positive impact in their communities by providing the necessary training, support, and resources to run effective recovery courses in order to meet the ever-increasing levels of demand from people up and down the UK.
To date, 96 churches registered for training, of which 49 have subsequently registered to say they are now intending to start a course in 2024.
We are now in Partnership with The Salvation Army and the Diocese of Rochester, who between them have 900 churches and centres that they are encouraging to apply for training on how to run a course.
Prison Ministry
In 2024, we began running The Recovery Course as part of HMP Pentonville's ground breaking Neurodiversity Wing initiative, which has had an enormous impact on those with mental health and addiction issues. Such is the desire of some of those in prison to kick their habit that this latest course, focusing on 'relapse prevention' and starting at the end of February, is over-subscribed twice over. Following the pilot at HMP Pentonville, we plan to extend the course into other UK prisons.
Our goal is to provide tangible support and empower participants toward lasting change.
Creating Resources
Our free resources have been updated and improved. These enhancements ensure those running the course are equipped with the best tools to guide participants through their recovery effectively.
There are fifteen sessions in the course and all of the resources including streamable video sessions and testimonies and the downloadable participant workbook, leader’s guide, leader’s manual, and prayer guidelines are available free to course leaders once training has been completed.
Course Branding
We provide all the course branding, including logos, graphics, wording, and customisable invitation templates, to help any church or organisation effectively promote its course. With these assets at their disposal, they can create social media posts and landing pages on their website, as well as leaflets, invites, and postcards. This helps those seeking support easily recognise the course, structure, content and how to register.
South Africa Courses
This year has seen The Recovery Course start in churches and rehabilitation centers across various parts of South Africa. Leading this important work is Chris West Russell, who is based in South Africa and spends time training and equipping churches to run the course and supporting those seeking help with addiction.
“The impact that The Recovery Course is having in Africa, particularly South Africa and going up into the neighbouring countries is becoming quite incredible. This programme which is clearly the way as addicts we need to live our lives, and understand that life is so full without using substances or actions that has got us to a place that we never thought we could get out of, is impacting lives across the country.”
Chris West Russell, The Recovery Course, South Africa
Annual Conference
November marked the return of our annual conference, a gathering dedicated to encouraging and equipping individuals passionate about making a positive impact on those struggling with addiction.
"The Recovery Course is not about quick fixes; it's not about instant conversions; it's not about sudden miracles. From what I know of it, the recovery course is intensely practical, requiring a lot of hard work, hard graft, and strong commitment.
